Just wondering who keeps up to date with held stock levels and value of said items?

Started off thinking I would keep track but then you use three cable clips out a box of 100, haven't specifically charged the client for them, haven't got an individual price. Just leave it.

Then you run out of something simple!

Now I just look along shelves and check what seems to be there, and try and pick these up when next getting a specific order.

I now have lots and lots of SFCUs because I forgot I had already bought some!

If you can keep track of stock it is probably a good idea but I feel that trying to count how many screws you used on a job a bit too much hassle.

That's my problem too Richard, I forget what I have in stock at times and it is something I am trying to address, not down to a single screw but things like Fcus, back boxes, sockets etc. Basically I am trying to cut back on storing too much equipment .

I've been doing some clearing out today and that is what made me ask the question, but amazed to find items that I had forgotten about which has led me to the drastic action of trying to log the main things so I know exactly what I have in stock and don't have problems again like you just stated top cat.

IMG_3745 - Copy.JPGIMG_3748 - Copy.JPGI find that it helps to only have one place to look for each type of item; so you know for sure whether you have it or not. It still doesn't stop me occasionally buying something I already have in stock.
I have standardised on a few types of parts box. The grey boxes are commercial stackable euro containers. Made by several companies, but all to standard dimensions. You can buy a limited range from Screwfix, eg 47126. The parts cases with hinged lids are by Stanley. Screwfix have discontinued them, but Wickes appear to have a dead match if I need any more. I think both of these are a bit expensive, but they last well and keep everything in order.
