Wattson Solar Plus

One of our customers has asked about monitoring his PV system for both generation and home usage. He doesn't have internet and doesn't want to spend a lot, so I have been looking at the Wattson solar plus.

Does anyone have any experience of this and how well does it work? Can you recommend anything else?

I have also been considering the Owl Micro +, getting 2 units and fitting one to the solar and one to the mains. We installed at GU as part of the installation, so this should present what we need.

He also doesn't have an immersion tank, just so you know!

I use the Eco Eye smart PV. Monitors generation, use and displays net by day or hour. Comes with SD card and software for PC so you can export and examine your stats at leisure. Checked against outputs on the powerone inverters display we have and it was within 1% so seems pretty reliable too and believe costs less than the Watson systems.

Do the owl or Eco-eye take a voltage reference from the grid?

Eco eye has directional sensors for PV and Grid plus a foil voltage sensor.

Ok, thanks, what's a foil voltage sensor? Is the grid CT bi-directional?

Sorry Sibert, lost me now. My response is as a user of the product. Manufacturer website probably best place to answer your queries. For me it does everything i need and it's been an excellent tool so far, easy to setup and enough information and data for me to effectively assess generation and use.

The grid CT is bi-directional .. i.e you have to put it in the right way round

Thanks Warlord, it looks to fit the bill. The guy doesn't have a computer but I have checked with Eco Eye and their monitor will give the information the customer requires without having to access a computer device.
