Hi all,

I'm starting my level 3 and nvq in September and the times come where I need to buy an sds drill for chasing etc.

My choice of 2 is either the Bosch gbh 2-26 dre - http://m.*************/details.htm?id=74813

or Makita Hr2470/1 -
http://m.*************/details.htm?id=81521

I can get either of these for the same price so its between the 2. Personally I like the Makita (just for the name if I'm being honest)

The only difference is the Bosch has 20w more power and .3j more energy. Do you really think it will make much difference?

Can anyone recommend either? I want it to last.

Thanks in advance :)

I just had my cordless repaired by bosch under their 3 year warranty, very quick service.

I have no experience of Makita, get the Bosch.

had a makita when I was a chippy. It broke and now I do electrics with a bosch, bosch all day long !!

sounds like the bosch where you buying it from mate

The place where you use a hand tool or drill to firmly FIX short pieces of course threaded metal into wood and rawl plugs etc...:D

The item no is at the end of each of the 2 links

Bought it yesterday for £99.99 :). A frien of mine is a manager in a well known DIY store so he helped me out with the price.

Unfortunately it had to be a 1 off or I'd offer to pass the savings some of your way. Sorry

To piggy back on to this thread, if I may, as it's related. Would people recommend getting a battery SDS? or just the corded variety. I'd assume the corded is the preferred, but what if re-wiring a place with no alternative power solution? I know charging will be a bit difficult...

There's always hand tools too I guess.

Battery sds mate. saves setting up transformers/extention leads and changing chuck. Always have a mains for bachup though!

Electricalserv - have you used the Makita? I don't actually have a comparison opinion yet.

As everyone I've spoke to at college/work etc say Makita everything else. Except always Bosch SDS for chasing.

I have the 24v makita. Its an ace bit of kit and thats no exaggeration. Get it!

I prefer the older 24V Bosch battery drill. The one with the LEDs on the battery to show state of charge.
I have two 3AH batteries, and the 15 minute charger. Would have liked the model with rotation stop for chasing, but this came along for £100.

just got a makita bhr202z sds skin (18v) today as i already had 2 3ah batteries and charger, very impressed, used it all day drilling 6mm holes in solid concrete for wall plugs and didn't miss a beat and battery still going strong, although will still pull out the 240v bosch for the big holes, hope this is a help.

Had both and prefer the Bosch as a good all rounder.the makita was great for 6mm holes but rubbish when using hole saws as the torque limit was too low.
The Bosch 36v is the daddy used every day for the last 3 years worth the outlay

I've had both a 110V Bosch and Makita and I have to say that for no other reason than the feel of it, I'd go for Makita. Performance wise, I feel they have both performed the same.

for serious chasing etc. i use a makita 110v. no problems with flat batteries. the thing don't weigh a ton, and they're cheap to buy.
