    Air compressor puzzle

I have seen air tanks scavenged from lorries used, and also old fire extinguishers!!!

    Insulating around cables

Personally I would put as much insulation underneath as practical without compromising the wiring or the ventilation. Much more important to eliminate draughts too. Not too much heat is lost through the floor, if draughts are excluded, compared to walls windows and roof as heat rises. Some...

Electric Shock off a Light Switch

If you discount the throwing across the room bit, I have seen this in the past: Electric shock on a plastic rocker switch. On further investigation I got 80-100V by putting a multimeter probe on the gap between the toggle and faceplate - to earth. On closer inspection this was full of dark...

Mobile home wiring to existing house

Negatively wired could be referring to the vehicle 12V DC system being negatively earthed i.e. negative side of battery to chassis?

    If you are..............

Probably an old valve set. If so would have had HT in there.

The 'you don't need to change it socket'

Looks like someone has been in there before. Slotted screws would have been the order of the day when the socket was new, I would have thought?

    Economy 7 Installation

Remember the bottom element, off peak, heats the whole tank. The "boost" top element only heats the top 1/3rd or so of the tank. So wiring the top element to off peak means the customer runs out of hot water mid morning!!

    Bathroom Extractor Alternative

Heat alone cannot solve the problem. If you heat the air in a sealed space, it will absorb more moisture. In a bath room the air will soon become saturated. This will then condense on anything below the dew point of that air. That will be everything else in the room not heated up above the...

    Cdm

CDM is more than just health and safety of the moment..... Also looks at long term issues such as how/is it possible to maintain something long term etc. So if you install something that cant be maintained for whatever reason......... Edited to add, still a load of CARP!

Barmy I know, but shocks?? from plastic switches?

I have seen it where a light switch in a kitchen gave a shock in a friends house. "Usually happens after I have cleaned it" Turns out cleaning with a more than damp dish cloth. When I took switch apart the detritus between the rocker and face plate had to be seen to be believed. Add a little...

    Which bayonet type is this?

Please bear in mind if this is for use in a boat Nav Light, the filament used in old nav lights were specially designed for a pin point source. i.e. the filament is in a straight line up and down not curled round like a domestic lamp. This is required to ensure the light is only visible through...

Can anybody tell me what this is and what it could be used for

That there is a 5 speed reversing fan controller. Used on some of the cheaper ceiling fans. Possibly other tings too. Possible someone has disconnected the load looking at the missing paint underneath and broken cable clip?

Re: New CDM Regulations will bring extra duties to smaller contractors ECA predicts a It means it will cost someone lots of money. You to train and be informed. The customer, because they always have to pay in the end. Net resilt, job will be more expensive. If anyone bothers for smaller jobs!!
