    edited 1567028293 Lister1987, that's a fantastic lead thank you. Could something like this work on a plug and play basis? It's output is higher - 2A, DC 29V, whereas my wall plug is rated at 700 mA DC 3-14V, but if the LED draws just 700 mA is this just an overbuilt (but safe and workable)...

    Thanks for the quick reply. I'm not super confident with my abilities for a job like this - does anyone have a recommendation for someone in New York City who could help with this? Ideally it would be great to keep the pair of lamps as they currently are used as bedside lighting.
