Re: Two solar arrays with MicroInverters into one AC lead to the board - AC Cable Cho 2 panels. 500 watts? Assuming 250 each? Or do you mean 2 strings of panels?

    Test leads

Totally agree. Mega leads are pony. The Kewtechnic ones seem ok mate.

metal light fitting with no earth

I used to rewire antique french chandeliers years ago and the second link tags like lugs were ideal. Obviously depends on the construction of the lights though.

Alterations to properties with 16th Edition set-ups

Just my 3 pence worth. They had an eicr done and rcd protection was given a code 3. Does the bathroom supplementary bonding include any electrical supplies in it? If not I'd probably code 2 that one.

    Another coding question

Code 3 for the heating as there's no local isolation and an MCB is not classed as an isolator. Cooker switch also code 3 as it is inaccessible and besides which should be away from the cooker due to thermal issues. Cable too short would only really be a comment. I use the code "info" quite often...

Handy tools that you couldn't live without

Bucket handle. Sounds stupid but it rules when you're trying to fish cables out of a studwall or ceiling. Also very handy for lv downlighters to push the trancformers/ jb etc out of the way. Was working on a firm doing pub refurbs and got the p**s ripped out of me for a total of 2 days. Then the...

Emergency lights fed by two supplies

I come across similar in fire stations with their "call lighting" which is automatic when they get a shout... A lot of them have a "call lighting" db which is contactor supplied and they simply run out switchlines to the lights they need. Most of the work I do is following EICRs so shower ltg...

    Interlinked smoke alarms

The firm I work for do a lot of council stuff. They specify Aico lithium backed up ones so tenants can't rob the batteries out of them, I'm pretty sure they require optical ones as well. Go on the Aico website mate, there's loads of info on all this stuff there, if you do a fair bit of smoke...

    Installing Electrics in Campervan

Might be worth making sure you have a split charge relay fitted as well, they work on the principle that when the engine is running the charging feed to the leisure battery is connected and then when you switch the engine off the relay opens the circuit and prevents the engine battery from being...

Max PFC gone through the roof....Ideas anyone?

Hmm, first tests, on my 1552 were 12.30 then with an old "spare" an uncalibrated one... at about half one, then my mate's new version of the same at about half 2. Last round of testing was with all 3 together in a short space of time, also did a few end of lines to make sure all the readings...

Max PFC gone through the roof....Ideas anyone?

That's the wierd thing...I'm not aware of a substation or similar locally, and only last year all the PFCs were way way lower... Maybe they decided to replace that bit of twin and earth they'd mended the cable in the road with last time..... lol

Max PFC gone through the roof....Ideas anyone?

Where relevant I do, as already said by others, I'll record it if it's the highest value. MFT 1552 but as also mentioned, the range maxes out at 19.9kA. Am awaiting a reply from Wylex as we speak, had to email them as the phone technical didn't have information as to how a fault's likely to...

    Main Earthing conductor size.

Make sure you put a "safety earth connection" label by the marshalling block mate, they like them!

    EICR retification.

Depending how much work was required I'd issue MW(s) or EIC stating scope being repairs following EICR serial no ....... No need to reissue EICR in my opinion...

What is the name of the fault when main bonding high resistance?

The firm I'm subbing to insist on 0.05, calculated from potential touch voltage, I have asked them to confirm this, and where the formula is and they go "a bit vague" on me....they tend to be a bit "monkey see...monkey do". Unless it's the supplementary bonding formula...415.2.2...
