    Hot glue

What a great question! Hot glue it to what? Inside equipment you see that all the time to hold stuff in place, but externally it would look absolute cr@p, and it would be difficult to think of a more non-compliant method of preventing the ‘premature collapse’ of fixed cables. Unless this is...

    SUB MAIN QUESTIONS. ADVICE NEEDED

Not sure if I’ve understood this properly, but it appears to have parallels with my own installation. I highly dislike the idea of feeding SP sub-mains from a TP board, unless for very small local loads - which are not likely to increase in the future - like, maybe, a garden shed. I would never...

Lucien Nunes - Auction of collection

Ha ha! So long as the hair dryer you remember wasn’t that pink hood thing, you shouldn’t worry too much. 😀 The reason those old kettles lasted so long is that every Tv repair shop (remember them?) sold spare elements. It was a different world. We fixed stuff. I still do.

Lucien Nunes - Auction of collection

What I find sobering is that several of the items I know very well because I had the exact same models, new. Doesn’t make me feel old at all 🙄 The Philips portable cassette, the Russell Hobbs kettle, and even the Panasonic first generation mobile phone. The latter used either a car kit, or you...

Lucien Nunes - Auction of collection

Who amongst us doesn't need this 'Rejuvenator' machine? I have one already. Great fun at supper parties, but believe me, it doesn't work. :)

Lucien Nunes - Auction of collection

In case it's not widely known, here's the link to the auction of items from late contributor Lucien Nunes' collection: Ramco auction - Lucien Nunes I know nothing of the background, but I buy a lot from Ramco and was sent the link. Ramco are good in that they package and send all purchases for...

Distance between socket outlets on different phases

Err … Hello … This thread was from thirteen years ago 😀 I’d completely forgotten about it. I do now have a proper three phase supply. The 480V issues have long gone.

How easy is it to blow the DNO's cutout?

Ha ha! You mean the stage dressing? It took ages for the committee to let me paint the front of the stage and the side panels grey for a start. They were gloss white Dulux, threw every bit of stray light back into your face, and looked ridiculous. Next is to paint the rear exposed walls dark...

    wholesalers or screwfix

Superlec Direct for SWA cable. Significantly less money than anywhere else I can find. Ordered 125m of 4-core 10mm five minutes ago. £5.19/m + VAT. Otherwise TLC for mail order accessories and anything complicated or rare, but watch the prices. Screwfix for MK sockets.

How easy is it to blow the DNO's cutout?

Yup, everything is LED. No halogen or discharge lamps at all. Filling the truss with Rank Strand 1000W luminaires off EBay really would be the way to blow the cutout off the wall. :) The picture I had to hand is old. Here's the rig as it is today; I'm still adding stuff. This is all new to me...
