How are 300 LED curtains running on only 5V USB?

Higher voltages mean longer cable runs before volt drop becomes a problem. Also at 5V, the current can be high, necessitating thicker cables. So 5V is ok for short runs, but usually 12 or 24V is preferable once you get above a few metres of cable run between PSU and LED. The higher voltage...

Small central UPS for converting circuit to emergency lighting

I may need to go this route, but finding suitable looking fittings isn't easy. The client would prefer to keep the existing fittings and doesn't want a bunch of EM bulkheads. Also since the switches are wired separately from the light fittings, it seemed the easiest option to just add one...

Small central UPS for converting circuit to emergency lighting

Thanks for the replies, but no product suggestions so far. Cable is MI, so is fireproof. Essentially what I'm looking for is a very small central battery system, but these all seem to be designed to power whole buildings. I can't find anything between this below link (8W), and a large central...

    PAT testing servers

Most servers are installed in racks and don't get moved, so are 'low risk' items for damage. They are more 'fixed equipment' than a portable appliance. As you know, the visual will pick up most faults anyway, so I don't really see it as a problem. You just record on the results that only a...

Small central UPS for converting circuit to emergency lighting

I am looking for a product to convert an existing lighting circuit in a communal stairwell to be emergency battery backed up. There are 6x 7W LED mains fittings, so say a max 50W load. I could just add emergency lighting fittings, but wiring and access is difficult. It also needs to have a...

3ph isolating transformer, Neutral to Earth voltage

Using a Fluke 117 True RMS meter. Same readings from different meters too. Connecting meter to the supply earth. Not sure what the supply is. I know that it's delta into the iso trans. Equipotential bonding should be in place, as the site is nearly finished and energised, but we are only using...

3ph isolating transformer, Neutral to Earth voltage

All final circuits are RCD protected. I understand that the transformer would no longer provide safety isolation if connecting N to E, but would it still provide noise filtering? This is the main purpose of this isolating transformer.

3ph isolating transformer, Neutral to Earth voltage

I am installing final equipment in a new electrical installation and our equipment is fed via a local 3-phase 1:1 isolating transformer (Input is wired Delta and output is wired Star). Our equipment is all single phase and split across the 3 phases. It comprises many switch mode PSUs. I have...

    Loxone Smart Home lighting

Are you installing Loxone lights or just using Loxone to control the lights? Loxone lights run on 24VDC, so wiring is different. However you can also control standard 230V lights with the Loxone control system.

    Long MCB dist board blank

Because there is din rail terminal in the way. The blanks are to cover the din rail terminal. It's for a custom control panel/dist board.

    Long MCB dist board blank

I have some large sections of a dist board I need to blank off and was wondering if anyone had come across long lengths of dist board blanks in black. Ideally something like plastic trunking lid that can be cut to size. I would rather not put lots of short sections in, as some sections are...

    13A sockets on 50A RCBO

Thanks for all the responses. It's been an interesting thread! @Wirepuller - I think I might go this route but with 2x 32A mcbs, each feeding a double 13A. I do still wonder if this is unnecessary, although it might make it easier to wire. As squeezing 2x 6mmsq into a socket might have been...

    13A sockets on 50A RCBO

Thanks for resposes so far. More info: SWA will be clipped direct. The tables give 62A for 6mmsq (volt drop 7.9v) The MK double sockets are rated to 13A per socket. As far as I can see this still should be okay.

    13A sockets on 50A RCBO

Can anyone see anything wrong with two double 13A sockets wired with 20m of 6mmsq SWA protected by a 50A RCBO. Normally I'd max radials at 32A, but the client has 4x 10A loads. Since the 13A socket on a cooker supply is generally protected by around 40-50A I am guessing it's fine.
