Hi all,
I'm wondering if it's permitted to replace an outside wall light myself if I use the existing wiring from the old light. In theory I just need to fix new light to wall and connect the wires to the terminals. I had assumed this would be ok because I'm not adding additional wiring. To me...
Something like:

Doesn't sound that easy when it's a twin. I basically want an interim solution as at some point will rewire but just want light up there for now. Maybe a decent work light is a good alternative.
Thanks...
Hi all,
I was thinking to add some lights like in the attached image, basically twin batten lights to my attic but i'm not familiar with strip lights like this. Do you need to buy the cable that will link the two battens? OR do you get a short length and then can buy additional length cable...
Ok thanks. I think it depends on the cable quality to some extent. I tend to use longer cables that are quite thin but not very robust. Guess I'll try insulation tape for now
Hi all,
I was thinking to use heat shrink to strengthen usb cables where the cable enters the connector. I find the insulation starts to crack over time as the cable is bent where the insulation joins to the USB connector. This would be as an alternative to insulation tape. I haven't used heat...
Thanks for the comments all, it sounds like the easiest option is to buy a light which has the manual override facility built in and that way can keep a single switch instead of having multiple. I'll have a shop around, might limit the products I can buy is only thing and cost
Hi there,
I have an outside light that is turned on with a switch from inside and would like to change it to a PIR version incorporating an option for the light to be on with the switch i.e. override the PIR or just use the PIR sensor. What will the switch do by default if i connect a light...
I could have the door closed as the average cable will fit under the door. Anyway it's not a big deal I just initially thought it was a straightforward job that wouldn't cost much to do compared extending the circuit and having a socket put in the hall. Given what's been said will leave alone.
I'm just asking if what is there now is safe i.e. the light and the single socket off of the SFCU? Seeing as by the old regs you could have 2 singles or one double socket. Ok I have a single and a light but that would draw less current than having two sockets in use. As this doesn't meet the...
Its on a 32A MCB and is labelled "ring main" on the CU. The SFCU has a 13A fuse. So what they should have done in this case is connect the SFCU directly into the ring then attach 2 spur cables off of this, one to the light and one to the socket? I don't know why they didn't put the light into...
