hi all, the job i am doing for my first assesment is garage supply in conduit(i have previoulsy posted about that) and replacing the c/u, on assessing the job today for the c/u all of the cables come down from the ceiling in a wooden box covered with a wooden front, i removed the front cover off...
hi guys i need advice my friend passed on some remedials for a factory i mainly do domestic work however given the climate i fancy taking it on but part of the job is installing a new pfc unit which ive never done how hard are they to do should i leave that part to a more suitable spark thanks...
i was thinking of the installation i have nearly completed and i was thinking about the grouping factor issue, the cables are grouped in pvc trunking leaving the consumer unit and travel about 4 meters before entering ceiling before dispersing into seperate circuits.would a correction factor be...
just a thought, i have been using some maxi trunking to suply cu going verticaly down the wall was wondering how far verticaly can you go with trunking before you need to support cables? also how do you judge how many cables to put in?
Hi Guys
I am trying to work out a system to be run in a small church like premises with irratic use.the system is to be in trunking so grouping is going to be effected by using the loadings of each circuit(which is not for long periods)is there any way of over coming these restriants I know I...
Hi All,
I have been searching the forum but can't find this anywhere. Can you please see if my interpretation of this is correct:
50x50 trunking, 2m run with 1 90o bend.
4 x 50mm conductors,
1 x 35mm conductor.
As there are no factors for over 25mm2 I have to work it out manually
50x50 =...
Just calculating my In... conduit with singles run.
For the grouping factor - Cg it states number of circuits
If I have 2 circuits, but this consists of 18 x singles (e.g 1 x ring = 6 and 4 x radials)
Would this still be a factor = 0.75 ?
Thank you
Sy
i'm after a little help with cable sizing. I have tried reading my IEE design guide, and still struggling to get to grips with the correct proceedure to follow for sizing cables. I have always struggled a little with this, but thus far my knowledge goes (albeit shaky)...
It>_ In/(Ca x Cg x Ci x...

hi guys, just a quick calc here:-
4 X 400w rated lighting, is my calculation for this
1600/230 = 6.9amp X correction factor
Type C circuit Breaker.

Hi,
i am looking to correct the p.f. on a number of individual motors. I hope to use a small capacitor bank position locally to each motor.
Can anyone recommend a brand/shop where I can get hold of these?
Thanks,
Well time has come to further my knowledge, now I know I was taught these at college but once i left i realised it was all about thinking from the neck down! So I know the rule of thumb is .8 but how do I apply these into calculations:freak:
What is the maximum cable capacity (factor) for 200 x 200 steel trunking
2metres up the wall with a 90 degree bend three metres along the wall
And what is the cable factors for 1.5mm and 2.5mm singles
Don't have reference books to hand
Hello. I'm new and I'm not an Electrician.
I have just about got my head around why these little plug in power factor correction devices don't work. I was wondering whether a device could be made that does the opposite? i.e. gives you a poorer power factor and thus lower bills. Or have I got a...
Hi Guys,
Just wondering if anybody would mind explaining the main purpose of working out the lead/lag of current compared to voltage in RLC circuits?
Is it to do when selecting/derating cables for current carry capacity?
Is there any other things that happen? maybe extra heat build up in...

Hi folks,
My client have a generator set rated 450KVA, 220Vac, 3P, 60Hz. Recently, the during start up of operation, the generator shut down because of an unknown trouble. When I check the power analyzer (I used for monitoring), the event that caused the shut down was "PF" which means...

Gents,
I'm applying for CEng through the CIBSE TRR route, my chosen subject determining maximum demands within commercial properties. I've been reading through some of the previous threads concerning manximum demand calculations and note almost everybody has a completely different approach...
Hi Guys,
could anyone explain to me the 1.2 volt drop rule of thumb? i understand the 3% for lighting and 5% for other circuits.
any help would be welcome studying for 2391.
Thanks in advance.
