The best value in the market place in my opinion is the new Stanley Fat Max L-ion Drill, currently on sale at Argos for £99.99, I was total amazed by the build and performance of Stanley's first offering when I tested it recently. At the current price it's a steal!

My Dewalt stuff is fine. The Hammer drill takes loads of abuse

Take a look at the rest of the range of tools that run off the same battery. I went for Makita a couple of years ago as I liked the choice of tools. I now have more tools than batteries, but that's OK, and I still have enough batteries for a long day's work without having to charge them up.

Got the Milwakee C18PD hammer and it's fantastic, the smaller 1.5ah batteries seem to last forever

What about hitachi 18v with 4ah batts.. I have to say i bought sds from folstone fixings in southamton i think, when drill pistons had gone with me core drilling , fedex picked up and droped off, first class service

milwaukee fuel m18, very powerful but i broke the gearbox after few months, fixed it free but sent it back with crushed led wire so no light...

AEG BSB18G no issues thus far, lithium ion batteries in mine and 3Ah genuine AEG batteries on Ebay for £60-£80,
cost me £120 2 years ago from a local independent for the above combi and a drill driver, 2 lithium ion batteries, 30 minute charger and a toolbag.
3 Year warranty if registered online.

I'll second that. I just went with Makita for that reason, I think only Dewalt come close in their range of 18V tools but for some reason I can't put my finger on I didn't get on with the dewalt stuff when I played with it.
My impression was that Milwaukee was perhaps slightly better quality on the drill (maybe a slightly better chuck?) but the makita BHP458 I got is amazing. I also really like the makita circular saw - quiet and smooth and a nice solid feel with a cast aluminium base plate rather than the pressed steel that most of them have.

I have the Milwaukee C18PD and bloomin love it ! It's great for general use, drilling joists, ceilings, block and brick, and is light enough to use as a screwdriver. It's also small so can wiggle into small spaces. I have to say I could have done with a bit more grunt yesterday when drilling engineering brick, but I should have got my sds out for that.
The HD18PD is the beefier version of this combi drill and might be worth a look for something a bit heavier.
You can get either drill with two 3ah batteries, charger and case for about £220 online.

Just bought this drill from Argos well impressed it does have a 3yr Warranty if you register it within 4 weeks

heard rumours the stanley is a rebranded Porter Cable drill, seen photos of them both and I have to admit....only difference seems to be colour.

Apparently Stanley /B&D/ & DeWalt are under the same umbrella ??

So I've heard, could be step in ressurecting porter cable in the UK or getting round its prior history and expanding the stanley range. I think Porter Cable is another "trade" brand that B&D sell in the states for those who dislike dewalt.

Look at the battery pack and the trigger, to my eyes they look very very similar in design, if not 100% the same, then they share a large amount of family resemblance.....just my 2p though
