Not exactly electrical but internet accessibility.
Which companies offer the best service, such as price, reliability, extras, customer support and tech advice.
Thanks to all in advance....

I've been with a few over the years and have found Plusnet to be the best of a bad bunch.

I only have DSL as I live in the arse end of nowhere, so customer service is the key for me.

I have Plusnet DSL, had it for some years, and generally happy with it - and also use Plusnet for the phone line.

However, over the years, I've had things either disconnected or fail - in the exchange, or local green box. Originally I'd kept BT for the phone, and just Plusnet for the ISP. And they kept trying to blame each other each time there was a fault, and having me do moronic tests even though I could tell them what the issue was. So I moved to one provider for both, to avoid this.

I'm with sky also and find it alright. My router did pack up a little while ago and phoned them up, they tried charging me £70 for a new router but when I said ok cancel my TV package, internet and phone they changed their attitude and sent me a new router for free.

I'm looking at Talk-Talk and Plusnet at present as possibilities.

They seem to offer roughly the same features. There are more exotic sites such as Zen.net or upyoursimthebiggesthackerintheworld.bs but they just don't have the same simple appeal as a straight forward ISP.

Thanks for the info guys....

SJD, that sounds like good advice as I'm thinking the same . ISP plus line rental - thanks

BT for me, been solid for 10 years. Just want super fast.....

had a couple of adsl before, always some problems with them, possibly due to the phone line itself- pair of 50 years old loosely hanging wires (bt does not care)
swapped to virgin (cable connection), very very fast, it works and no customer service needed so far...

bt are good but there routers are carp

a lot of them were rebranded thompson routers.

get a cheap netgear etc from currys for £40ish+ if they try to charge you or it packs up

(unless you go fibre then dont go for any router as most are adsl/adsl2 not fibre)

I can't get superfast anything round here - everything is just horses and tractors. Virgin have thrown me out for being too long with them.
Basic ADSL isn't good for promotions I suspect

no superfast here, i get stuck behind tractors quite often

Plusnet is BT, we have orange (now EE) and only had to ring 3 times in past 8 years. We don't use there router as that gave up years ago and the replacement never worked so went in skip. I would not go near talk talk as every customer and family member that has had Internet problems have always been talk talk customers. Sky look ok but you have to use there box. & I never will recommend BT as they are there worst of them all.
if you don't download huge amounts you could look at EE's 4g home router.
My 2p worth

also with EE. phone and internet. no problems except 1 router packed up. they sent a new one FOC within 48 hours.

I have plusnet, who are (as said earlier) owned by BT.

The difference- PlusNet have UK call centres and you can call someone who can string a sentence together and probably fix the issue there and then.

With plusnet here for nearly a year. Been pretty good, consistent speeds and good price. Noticed a few drops occasionally but I think that's at the exchange as they're rolling out fibre locally now.

We;re with Sky and have been for a good few years now.No complaints at all apart from putting money in Rupert Murdoch's pocket but no one can touch them up our end.
