Hi all could someone advise me on if it is possible to change this light switch to a new one that I have already bought . The one in the picture is for 2 way switching on an upper landing level with the other switch on the lower landing level - it operates the lights on both landings only, but the lower landing switch also acts as a 2 way switch for the light at the bottom of the stairs on the ground level if that's relevant . The new switch I have only has three terminals, Common, 1 way & 2 Way. The old switch in the picture is feed by old 1.5 twin and earth I'm just a bit confused on what to put where on the new switch - hope that makes sense ! Many thanks for any advice offered. I'm not an Electrician but I am confident in working with basic stuff like this safely, If there is any question this is not a simple 'fix' I will call a qualified spark our usual one is not available at the moment for at least 6 weeks though hence asking as the Mrs is nagging me on when it is going to be sorted lol

That is an intermediate switch so you need to change the one you have purchased.

Very simple answer to this! You have bought a 2W switch, but you shoul have bought an intermediate switch.
You'll need to take it back and buy the correct one.

It's only got one screw in the centre but I'm replacing the back box anyway as its been set in on the slant - I've ordered the new switch could I just ask for confirmation if the wiring is simply moved over as is to L1 & L2's on the new switch ?

Only thing to watch is that both wires from one cable go to the bottom of the switch and that both wires from the other cable go to the top. (Not like I managed to do two weeks ago.)
