No need to spend much more on a kitchen really. Unless you're trying to outdo the neighbours or a bit insecure about yourself.

Doesn't that rather depend on the size of the kitchen?, the worktops?, the number of new appliances?, the flooring? changes to the plumbing? changes to the electrics?

True, it does. But it amazes me what people will spend on a kitchen just to impress their friends.

I was in a kitchen recently - I didn't work on it ...........the total bill was over £30K (that did include taking a wall down, all new appliances, granite, new fuseboard, downlights, flooring) - somebody did very well out of that!

Its the appliances that add to the cost, decent fridge freezer, induction hob, extractor, oven, dishwasher plus sink and taps as well as the worktop and maybe a washing machine if you don't have a utility room.

My kitchen came in from Lithuania and was nearly half the cost quoted from a UK supplier. Then again the rule of thumb is the value of the property to the costs of the upgrades.

Wait until you end up working in a Smallbone install the cheaper end of the luxury market.

Apparently Harrods sell kitchens - starting at around £100k!
Digressing now so apologies but I have a friend you was/is friends with John Rendall who bought a lion cub from Harrods in the late 60's I think there was an elephant for sale as well........

I’m sure the kitchen will be fine and comes with an inter grated dishwasher, oven, hob and extractor.

I’ve got another electrician coming round soon who has said the other price is too high from what I’ve told him.

Really?

Nobody gives out prices on the phone for such a room without seeing it .............let alone saying another price is high.

Maybe the 2nd isn't registered, isn't paying tax and NI and likes folding cash .................. plus no certificates for you.

but have you told all. there may be issues that you have no knowledge of.e.g.bonding, whether your CU can cope with extra circuit/s. see what he comes up with.

Back in one of my first bedsits back in the 90's when I moved out of home I had a baby belling oven you could just manage to get a fray bentons pie inside the actual oven for width and when it fully puffed up would almost hit the the oven top.

I loved that oven and you even got a free ashtray with your pie. And back in the days of not knowing any better I realised my pound meter was hung on the wall on two screws which when lifted off and then layed on it's front well.........:)

Regarding his tax and ni, that’s not my concern, if he’ll do it cheaper for cash then happy days.

if he's polish though, it'll probably be done in bell wire.

If he's doing it for cash he wont be registering it with building control, which may be breaking the law. And as the home owner it is your responsibility to make sure the job is registered if required.

The bloke isn’t Polish, it’s wrong to discriminate like that too, ive worked with a few Polish people in my work and some have been great at their job.

I will make sure everything is safe and above board, however I don’t want to be ripped off.

Hi,that's just Tels site banter - there will be no other insinuation intended :)

The point the lads are making,is that the final selected individual,is up to your job,and not just the cheapest possible, you can find.

I have given every Polish person,i have ever met,a deliberate benefit of the doubt, purely due to my families RAF involvement.....but very few of them, have had a terminal driver in their hand ;)
