Hi,

Apologies for the basic (silly!) question, but using a maintenance free box (ashley j803) to extend a ring main circuit, in the configuration in the image attached with 4 cables (2 in, 2 out), would it not create issues having the separate 2 cables in and out, in contact with each other? Should they not be connected separately (2 junction boxes) or is everything connected to each other in the end and it doesn't matter?

Cheers!

This would be known as a 'figure of eight' RFC, is not permitted, and there is a specific test prescribed in the regs. to root any such arrangements out.
Either 6 pole j/box, or two separate 3 pole is required.
