Lighting unit with no earth connection

I installed a metal lighting unit, which had no earth connection. Is it unsafe to connect the earth wire of the incoming cable to the light's housing?

Gordonbennett, I don't want to come across as rude as I don't mean to be but judging by your last few posts you may be out of your depth a little and in the future I would advise getting an electrician in.

Only class Ii fitting can be used on light circuits if made of metal and no earth

Appreciate this is an old post but for clarity a light fitting can be deemed class 2 AND made out of metal.
