RCD tripping when socket is turned OFF

Hi,

No electrician background here, so novice question!
I have a new (<6 months) plug socket that whenever I switch it OFF it trips the RCD on the fuse box.

I’d previously had an issue with the RCD and ‘socket’ switch tripping (all sockets are on one switch on the fuse box) which was traced to a faulty socket plus a live wire touching earth wire somewhere under floorboards/basement. This was rectified by cutting off supply to that socket and the faulty wires associated with it.
The socket that is the issue is the one before where the wires were ‘cut off’, and at the same time a new socket was put on.

I live in a rented property and have reported it but looking for peace of mind mainly as to what it could be. Was under the impression turning a socket off wouldn’t cause a trip!

And does it trip when switching off with nothing plugged in?

Tripping at switch-off can sometimes indicate that the polarity is reversed. If the switch is single-pole, this means the neutral is disconnected instead of the line, and the parts of the connected appliance normally at neutral potential swing up to line potential, causing a current impulse through any internal suppressor capacitors and increase in functional earth leakage. It sometimes also happens if a double-pole switch feeding an inductive load arcs as the contacts separate.

Yeah i've seen this a lot with cheap DC isolators.
