Hi can anyone tell me in a honeywell Y Plan system is it necessary to have the Hot Water off wire from programmer to ten block connector? , changing from an S plan system and would mean lots of hassle to put in extra cable, my thinking is once the hot water is satisfied it losses signal, but there may be a reason, as i understand y plan HW is default position for valve and when calling for CH changes to "A" position, or "AB" position if HW and CH is required if anyone can confirm that the HW off wire is not needed, many thanks

A 3 port valve has 3 valve positions, A, B & AB. The three wires are needed to provide HW, CH, or HW&CH.

As Liam said without the HW off signal, you wont be able to achieve CH only.

thanks for that thought so was trying to avoid floor boards up, but jobs got to be done thanks

the white wire of the 3 port valve whick connects to the HW off is an electronic brake converted from AC to DC and doing so holds the valve in its heating only position very clever piece of engineering to , i have posted how it works on here

I think you'll find the grey goes to HW off and the white goes to the return from the roomstat

Here's a thought, really radical but I'll suggest it anyway:

why not just stick with S plan?
