The Question is the Wording, Can you be a Not Qualified Electrician in this Age, Isnt it a Double Negitive

OK lets go back to BASIC, what is a Electrician, now i cant define what it is, only the people who give the title out (Goverment/ITE)

The way the Governing Bodies define it, as someone with Qualificaions and depending on level of understanding.
Old way, i am guessing was more Time Spent doing the Job. (that dosnt seem to have a Time Limit, guess there shouldnt be, but mor down to the persons understanding of doing the job in hand)

So were dose that leave the Pre-Qual Electricians.
Are you an Apprentice Electrician still or a Electrician seems you seem to have done your NVQ3 (or you still missing AM2)

I have my level 3 tech certificate which is as written on the certificate/profile. I recently passed the 2394/5 also. Just plodding along with the NVQ site diary side of things at the moment. Should be booked in for my AM2 quite soon.

Still an apprentice and have lots to learn.

the am2 is really easy. how are you getting on with your logbooks?

i was lazy and knocked up 3 of my writeups in a couple hours (i have a very good memory when i actually pay attention)

How did you find the AM2?

Just collecting photos at the moment. I will do a few write ups at a time and go from there i reckon. Got some more commercial 3 phase work coming up so should get some good evidence/pictures from this.

I must admit i have a tad slow with the evidence, i was out of work with a broken Tib/Fib for 12 months.

You should NEVER stop learning, with Electrical's and Electronics forever changing in small ways
we on graphene and all sorts of Computer Devices popping up from WIFI Cams to remote Switches etc

hmm finished at 11am on 2nd day then 10am on the third.

honestly it is easy.

the install can be finished on the first day if you rush, i took my time and finished it off in the morning.

the testing/fault finding and safe isolation was easy (dont give them the key)

the online exam was a joke and can be done in 15mins made, you will get bored and leave a question or two unanswered (i had two that i couldn't find referenced in bs7671 but they were obscure questions and didnt have a clue where to look)

wifi camera's are a bad idea, google defcon and car hacking and you will see why.

most of these devices have such poor security implemented they are rendered useless especially as they will never be updated.

there was a talk on at defcon or maybe blackhat where they got the firmware for most ip cameras of the manufacturer's websites then found the default unchanagable admin accounts in the firmware.

there was one camera they ccouldn't and that is you have to buy the camera and it cost thousands

Sounds like a pretty pointless test these days to be fair. But i need it to get my JIB card.

I take it you passed it with ease then?

Guy i worked with once said to me "when you stop learn you die, so what you learned today" and in a warehouse with Naff all to do, i Quit the Job and went to UNI, What a F up that was, didnt suit me at all.

Sport Sci Students going out Drinking every dam night, if any one shouldnt know the effects of a life like that on your body it should be them.
But getting back in to Electronics after 2yr out, i wasnt up to it, i smashed the computer side of the course, even to the point my Tutor asking me how i did that!!!
I did First Year Degree with the OU but got lost on some of the reading, i wouldnt mind to do a Degree in Computers/Electronics tho.

Also would like to do 2357 Convertion and the AM2 just to have a Finish to that side of things, i hope.

yeah, got results same day, i started at the same time as two others and was a few sections ahead when i left.

when i left on the second day with just the online test on the last day they were on testing (way behind)

i was really nervous but it was easy but at least 2 others will have failed it, i spotted non conformancies to the spec out of the corner of my eye when i went for breaks etc, i meticulously followed the spec word for word

Nice 1.

It is possible to hack in to any WIFI connection via rounts and ways (think that News bit of a woman on the Underground getting Two guys sending her SHOTS, via a app called AppDrop i think, called CYBER FLASHING)

Most WIFI should be facing a Drive or a Door, nothing EXCITING
i cant think how to do it off hand, but would be the Old Recording a Blank day and feeding it back so they dont see you coming on WIFI cam!

I THINK WE HAVE HI-JACKED this POST THO :gunsmilie:

if you are not sure what the fault is, put the tests you did down on the paper untill you have run out of tests.

i had a fault that could have just been user error or the fault not been placed on my bay (on the heating and do heating controls everyday in bms)

mobile internet basically 3g etc is insecure, you can grab one of these boosters from q carrier then if you take that to say hyde park everyones phones will connect through it and you can see the bare traffic.

in laymans terms, wireless security is usually awful but there are ways to make it more secure.

wifi camera's should be non firmware upgradeable without direct access to the hardware and this firmware should not be released to public or trade, it is possible to protect it once it is installed on devices

yeah i worked for 9 years as an industrial Electrician/Technician so some procedures in domestic regulation are alien to me regarding work sign off ( i was told all work needs Part p sign off in-case you sell your home, and of course i am sure insurance wont pay out if they find anything not signed off properly bit like an undeclared modified car, so i wanted to go the correct route) but i used to be registered with NICEIC via work and signed off all my own "domestic installations" at the workplace and PAT sign off (also qualified) the remainder of my works was PLC programming (again qualified), fault diagnosis (another C&G Qual for this) on industrial FMCG machinery and HV sub stations

I also have a degree in Mechanical & Electrical Engineering BEng (Hons) plus lower qualifications leading to this but I digress

i think putting in a power supply to a hot tub (the rocket science that it is) is the least of my worries in terms of competence.

question was can i just sign it off myself now i am no longer registered, should i just get someone round to sign it off?
can i just do it and notify the council and ask them to come round and inspect it, (fee for a open fire installation inspection by building control was £350 if i remember right - so maybe its cheaper just to get someone registered to sign it off / install it?)

i begrudge paying someone to do work i am quite capable of doing especially because its so frigging simple,

Guys.. If you want to talk about other subjects other than that posted by the OP then start a new thread please, can we keep to the thread topic please.

Thankyou.

Surely Llama if you ever do move you would be taking the hot-tub with you, and considering a large percentage of house sales go through without any Electrical inspections done I wouldn't be too concerned about it, like you express you are more than competent to do the work ....
Although I have to stop short of recommending anything illegal like not getting it signed off or notified.. as these rules are really there to limit poor and dangerous work by DIY and Bodgits even though its the competent who end up paying for it in some way or other.

Just make sure you follow section 702 BS7671, and depending on hot tub and it's location in your garden. Others on here can offer guidance.
