Surely Llama if you ever do move you would be taking the hot-tub with you, and considering a large percentage of house sales go through without any Electrical inspections done I wouldn't be too concerned about it, like you express you are more than competent to do the work ....
Although I have to stop short of recommending anything illegal like not getting it signed off or notified.. as these rules are really there to limit poor and dangerous work by DIY and Bodgits even though its the competent who end up paying for it in some way or other.

yes i would disconnect it too prior to putting it on the market to be honest, i moved only a year ago and no electrical test was done so i dont really understand why everyone is talking about it in great detail.

if i did connect it (hypothetically speaking) what's the worst that could happen?
maybe there was always a hot tub connection point in the garden prior to me moving in and i just stumbled across it and brought a hot tub which the company could then connect to an existing connection point :)?

As we said - as long as your competent and if in an area your not used to then just ensure you are up to date on the reg's ...

currently 17th additions 3rd ammendment (Yellow books) then its fine, as mentioned though I believe there are regulations regarding Hot-tubs etc that you may need to catch up on, like you I'm fully indusrtrial so even I have to scan the books if dropping back to domestic.
