UK Adding a second crimp lug

Schneider make spreaders for those switches. You can bolt the spreader to the existing connections and then attach your cables using your own longer nuts & bolts.

How to improve the cooling of 2000 kVA ONAN transformer

I am currently looking at the same problem on a transformer here in the UK, customer has already installed fans but to little effect, we have just installed a data logger to look at the harmonic load on the transformer which we feel may be the cause of the issue. With all of the solid state...

    UK Eddy currents??

I’m afraid that’s what needs to be done, especially on high current circuits such as this.

    UK Eddy currents??

Any metal that completely surrounds a single core cable should be non-ferrous, that includes lock nuts, so in my opinion these should be changed to brass.

    Motor ID & VFD Selection

I think I would avoid putting a VSD on a motor of that age as the insulation of the windings probably would not be able to withstand the peak voltages generated by the VSD.

ABB ACS880 - INPUT PHASE LOSS (FAULT 3130)

The drive can be programmed to ignore that fault, however, I would suggest you monitor the mains supply to ensure that you are not losing a phase or getting voltage dips when the drive hits a certain speed, you may be overloading the supply when the motor gets to a certain speed which does not...

How do I fit a digital thermostat?

Basically, a Nest or a Hive type system replaces both of the items that you show in your pictures. How easy to fit depends on the type of central heating system you have. I.E Type of boiler, do you have a hot water cylinder or is it a combi? If you have a cylinder is it pumped or gravity, etc...

Extension socket exploded, problem with extension block or main wiring?

Not a huge fan of these things. I do not think having something built into the wall that you cannot quickly disconnect in the event of a fault is a good idea. They make testing a pain and the build quality of some of these leaves something to be desired as this video posted by Bigclive will show.

    24v DC fuse

The problem here is that a fuse or circuit breaker will not be fast enough in a lot of cases. The inbuilt short circuit protection in most new 24v DC switch mode power supplies will shut down the power supply before the secondary protective device has had chance to operate. This can make fault...

What do I need to know to calculate size of single phase motor?

I would have thought the easiest way round the issue is to match the new motor to the one you take off. I.E the same h.p / kw rating and the same speed as the three phase one you take off

    Two quick questions

The rating may well be behind the rotary conversion that has been fitted. So you will have to remove that too to see the rating. (French design!!!)

    Cable Design Software

You might like to look at the regulations regarding fire pumps and their associated protection, it generally differs from what we are used to. It does vary depending on insurance companies and local fire officers, but generally this is what is done. 1. They are usually connected to the live...

Calculating inrush current for magnetic ballasts

Trouble is digital meters just aren’t fast enough for this, How about an analogue meter like an Avo8 connected to a small split core CT? Say 200:5 ratio? With an analogue meter you should be able to see the inrush.
