    L1 L2 and common. Did it trip the RCD? The principal of L1 and L2 is that while one is on, then the other is off.     Just not possible the plastic compound used for light switches etc does not conduct electricity and depending on how much was paid wont even conduct static. Some of the cheap plastics have a nylon content which transmits static. They could be walking in nylon socks on a nylon based carpet. Bingo...
