You are right - said they didn't do it. But I believe them as they've just moved in a few months ago and this looked like it had been around a while. Apparently the last owner was a builder who did the electrics himself!
Here is an interesting way to connect up your down-lights. Just part of an installation where green and pink insulated (for 12 V?) but unsheathed wires were used variously for Line, Neutral and CPC. Had to pull the lot and rewire.

Darkwood; Not a Green Day fan - well wasn't, but now you mention it I like the lyrics. Actually the inspiration for CD came from an inscription on a church at the bottom of a ski run in Switzerland. Seemed appropriate then and now in my new venture.
