Really appreciate all the advice, I went back with a more logical approach and tested everything, tails all good but no neutral when the main switch was on.
Replaced main dist board switch and all back on, I think I lost a bit of common sense and it was late in the day.
Glad it's resolved just...
No not a volt stick, there is only 1 board next to the metering, both rcd test buttons don't work but I thought that was a mechanical test and rcd can still operate if that doesn't work. I also tested at each breaker with rcd off and get no reading then 240v when rcd is on.
I have never seen...
I didn't alter anything in the board, and if you remove the lighting circuit from the rcd set up why would every other circuit be off yet live at the breaker 240v
Please don't all kill me here but,
I replaced 3 lights tested those 3 and all working. Went to do a 4th a restored power and now the rcd trips.
Put everything back to how it was and no power to any outgoing circuits but all circuits have 240v.
No tripping at all unless I put in a plug top...
Thank you, that's great, just a shame the feed cable is armoured, no way of making it off to a commando, plus it's 2 core so need the strands for earth.
OK see what your saying so discrimination is more protective devices, so in that case I could stick with the 100a main switch sub board fed from 32a rcd while downstream is a 6a and 16a.
I usually prefer not to joint but as its already wired and solid maybe using existing armoured is fine, just...
Sorry if this is obvious but I thought discrimination was for down stream?
I want to feed and outdoor unit which only requires 6am and 16amp, it has a little sub board with these breakers but a 100a main switch, my supply is a 32a commando outlet.
Should I feed existing sub board with existing...
Sorry dont know the motor rating as its inside the comp,16mm direct from switch panel to isolator 3 x gg 32a fuses inside an isolator.i should have took photos. To me the cable is sized for a design reason and putting a flex into connnectors and then the load side is wrong, so it comes...
I have just disconnected a 3p compressor on a 16mm armoured but inside the isolator each phase was on connectors then dropped to 2.5mm flex
And connected.looks like they struggled to terminate. Is this just lazy and bad practise or dangerous ,32amp compresser.
