testing code for ferrous consumer unit

Hi davesparks, Thanks for your reply which backed up my thoughts.Although I did opt for improvement recommended to bring the installation to comply with the regulations. The consumer unit has been this way for about 15 years so I could not see how the lead electrician thought this was...

testing code for ferrous consumer unit

Hi we did a report today and the tails to the mk metal metal consumer unit were through two separate 20mm knockouts. We are now arguing if this should be C2 or C3. Also the main earth entered through the back of the unit. Any thoughts on this ?.

Removing the back of a dry lining box - good or bad?

Cable sheathing must be within the back box same as a junction box. If the back was cut out this would be a fail on inspection or verification

    Intermitant RCD tripping

I agree a coil that has been lying for a long time may have problems but a cable run that has been laid in for a cou;ple of weeks prior to termination will be ok as you will probably take more than 100 mil anyway when terminating.Don't take my word for it but if you ever have the oppotunity (and...

Got my first PIR since qualifing

As per the above reply you may have to get in touch with the insurance company as they are the people requiring the PIR and may have there own views on things like what limitations are acceptable and what percentage of items should be opened for inspection etc

    Intermitant RCD tripping

Hi nothing to do with your query just the comments on pyro. Pyro is self sealing and will only allow moisture for approx 100 mill, cut this off and you are in good cable. Also there is no point in testing pyro until both ends are terminated, after terminating, do ir test,if slightly low wait 24...

    Periodic Rewirable Board

I agree with bigbreakfast, bearing in mind you are testing to the 17th edition, this does not preclude installations to a previous edition which would not be to current standards although under the standard it was installed is still fit for purpose. In your covering report I would suggest the...

    Funny RCD trip

If the rcd tripped on 1/2 tripping current with the other circuits off, that would be a fail and indicate a faulty rcd
