Hi All, so I have a outdoor cctv camera that you plug in - I'm thinking of attaching this to the soffit and going into the loft from there (very easy access).

Can I just wire this into the lighting circuit, I've already done some work in the loft for various lights and an extractor fan so I have a junction box which has neutral, earth, live & switched live available) - If so should I cut the plug off and wire into this or should I wire a 5a socket into the junction box and plug the cctv camera into this (I assume they sell adapters to make a normal plug fit into these?).

I'm in the UK.

Thanks

It is something that is often done for tv amplifiers
I would prefer to see a fused spur (fcu) fitted between the lighting circuit and a standard 13A socket.

personaly I would use a single un switched socket and mark it as cctv only.

Thanks, I think that does sound the easiest option - as long as it's clear that it's a low amp and for cctv then there shouldn't be any problems?

I would be happy with that. I know some people are strictly 'only lights should be on a lighting circuit' but I don't see an issue. Same with an aerial amplifier powered from the lighting circuit.

Especially if the only alternative is to lift floor boards/chase walls etc.

the circuit needs to be protected by an rcd or rcbo.
but other than that, I can’t see a problem.
