As part of a recent trip visiting some of the WW1 battlefields and memorials in Europe, we called in on a massive fortification called Fort Hackenberg in France. I thought some of you might be interested to see some old electrical installation work, the pictures are from within the plant rooms of the fort. Originally built as one of the major forts in the Maginot Line to defend France from Germany's advances in WW2, it is one hell of a visitor attraction which runs for miles under the mountains nearby - well worth a visit if this takes anyone's fancy. Sorry they're not amazingly clear:

Thank you for posting Fox, a very nice post and the pictures are really good.

It amazes me that installations like this took place around 40 years after the introduction of the UK wiring regulations (albeit in France).

Compare these pictures to some of the sights we see today which are installed over a hundred years since the first edition....

Hi,

Went to Malta earlier in the year, one of the highlights was visiting the underground War rooms where they did the planning for the invasion of Sicily.
They have an air conditioning system installed in about 1942 that consists of an old aircraft or boat engine that is working as good as the day is was installed.
Ironic thing is we should of seen a video introduction of Malta during the War, but the video wouldn't play. Somehow the old engineering just keeps on going.

Regards.
