Hi all!

I am looking to fit a new 20W outside light on my garage wall. I know ideally they should be on a circuit of their own, but can I do the following;

Take a spur from a double socket in the garage which is fed from the house and down-amp it using a 5a fcu.

Then run a 1.5mm cable from the fcu into the outside light?

All help appreciated

Yes. That’s.acceptable. Can even go down to a 3A fuse.

Method if fine. Only point to take care of is the cable outside is UV rated, so not twin & earth (unless it in conduit or similar to keep the sun off).

Common choices are H07RN-F which is very flexible rubber stuff, or NYY-J which is quite stiff and stays in place for fixed installation (basically it is like armoured cable but without the steel wire armour).

Edit; Just to add some places like Superlec Direct sell those types by the meter.
