Hi all,

As the thread subject says I have passed my am2 1st time around with a resit on one section so buzzing is a understatement!! To now know I am no longer an apprentice an a competent electrician is mint. If anyone wants any help or has any questions with the am2 exam then drop me a message ill happily help.

I just want to know now I have got my am2 certificate, nvq 2357 level 3 diploma
In electrical installations city and guilds 2365 level 2 and level 3 diploma in electrical installations. I understand I need by bs7671 course to do yet, which I will complete after the new 18th edition comes into play.

I just want to know if anyone had any ideas or suggestions to what to do next with the steps in my career and what industry to look for what additional courses to do etc?

Also to add I currently work in a domestic industry with a small electrical company as in self employed company.

Any help/ideas or guidance will be great

Cheers everyone!

Well done Ryan. If I was you I would now look at doing your 2391 as this would make you eligible to apply for an approved electricians card rather than an installation electricians card.

The 2391 is the inspection and testing course I believe... I am thinking of doing that at some point just need some suggestions on the cost for it and stuff like that. So can I apply for my JIB card now? Or should I hold it off until I do the additional courses?

YIU don’t have to do your 17th if your tech certs are recent. Just apply for your gold card

They are recent the oldest tech cert I have is 2016 I believe... but I havent done any bs7671 courses as in not one so I would have to do the 18th before I apply
for my gold card?

So anyone got any ideas/gudiance on my next steps in my career?
I agree with Lee go for the 2391 whilst you are still in the mood for it.

Any ideas on what Industry to go into? I currently work in domestic and fancy a change more challenging industry etc...

Well done Ryan! Six months into my first year as an apprentice myself. Maybe try and get a job with a larger company? One that does some commercial, as well as domestic?

Not sure what to advise as I always worked on industrial or larger site builds, domestics where meh and a piece of ---- in that day and age.

Times have changed though so maybe the hardened sparks on here can advise.

The one thing I remember is when I finished my apprenticeship I was let go then got a job at Matthew Hall, was the norm to let the apprentices go at that time.

I did mine in 2013 and didn’t do the 17th. Your college work is don’t to 17th do you don’t need to sit anything. Just apply and get that gold card and that pay rise

So would I be able to apply for a larger company and gain experience in that sector? Where abouts do you work? As in what company?

I do fancy working in commerical and larger sites as I want a change from house bashing. Want to learn alot more and stuff.

I take it you work up and down the country? My boss is offering to keep me on but, I might stay for another year just to get additional experience behind my self then change industry etc...

It is not easy up here now Ryan as you probably know . All the big heavy industries are all but gone now.
I would agree with @Strima , don't be too hasty leaving a good job until
you test the water.
Check the local pay rates and do your homework .

Well done and good luck in your career.

How did you pass first time around if you had to resit one part of it?

Congratulations on passing your AM2
