Could I ask why you have got that bull-bar on the front?? Are you aware that in the event of an accident with a pedestrian (which may have been their fault), they are far more likely to suffer serious injury or even be killed, than if the vehicle involved did not have one? I believe there was a campaign a while ago and that the fitting of them on new vehicles was going to be banned. Please take it off it is dangerous and serves no purpose.

Good, they should be banned. But what exactly is the point, plastic or otherwise???It was banned, which is why land rovers built in more recent years had plastic bull-bars as an option rather than the previous metal ones.
Originally was for protection on pickups and the like against animals, etc. Farmers and those who live out in the sticks and more likely to encounter deer.Good, they should be banned. But what exactly is the point, plastic or otherwise???

Yes, and if you happened to hit a pedestrian, your fault or theirs, they would have far more catastrophic end result on their chances of survival or long term health. How does that stack up against the convenience of mounting some pretty useless lights or any other irrelevant crap? Take the bloody things off.The original purpose was a practical one, and the reason they are called bull-bars, basically it was to deflect animals when driving around in Africa/Australia/America etc where very large animals are prone to getting in the way.
In the UK they are a pretty decoration and a good place to mount decent driving lamps/spot lights on a 4x4
My Landrover has a nice shiny chrome one on it, which was there when I bought it and I have had spots mounted on it in the past plus it is a convenient place to tie up the tow rope for storage.

It would Dave. I watched a program about it once, the bars produce quite catastrophic damage. I agree a landy is not the best surface to collide with, but the shape of the bars is what was causing the problem. The lights are not useless, they give a significant improvement to night time visibility.
Taking it off of the Landrover will offer no improvement to the effect of a pedestrian impact, the whole front of the vehicle is dad flat with a solid steel bumper.
On a vehicle which has a sloping bonnet and other design features which improve the chances of pedestrian survival then yes I would agree,
