Looking for the correct path slow but hopefully to become qualified in the years to come.

I am looking to do the level 2 & 3 diploma route first at a local college.

Leaving school i took the electrical route but ended up a mechanical engineer upto now.
Since all this lockdown and being on furlough has had me wanting a change.

Currently my son is lvl 2 & 3 and is in the process of finishing his portfolio so i have been doing his odd private work for him summerhouses, bars etc. Everyone is wanting now So have a little experience in certain bits etc.

I have my own tools/transport etc. and was even going to grab maybe a ecs card just incase anyone needed someone so i can gain more experience.

The ideal plan would be to do my lvl 2 and 3 at college which is saying one day a week over 60 weeks so 2/3 years and the other days be in work as a Trainee/Labourer electrician maybe!

Any advice welcome thanks.

The only advice I can give Jason is.... DO IT!

Don't let it be one of those things that you keep telling yourself you're going to do, then the years slip by and you don't do it.

I changed career 8 years ago. I'm 48 now and absolute love being self employed and having control over my life, rather than being told when to arrive for work, what you're doing wrong at work, yes sir no sir etc etc etc. It's been 8 years and I still get a buzz out of simply being in control of my life. I do wonder if that is only possible if you have spent quite a while being employed, you then notice and appreciate the severe change to self employment, whereas if you have always been self employed this is the norm and perhaps not as thrilling.

I started my training by joining a local college 3 nights a week for 2 yrs after work for my level 2 & 3 when I was 30.
I put myself through 2391 and 18th and then nvq and Am2.
I'm 36 now with a gold card and working full time for a company as a spark best move I ever made.
My advice is do it and keep to your plans offer your help to as many people as you can in your spare time for experience.
