Always a bit nervous with a first message on a forum, suppose its just getting used to the site.
I have over the past few months been reading some of your posts, on various subjects and found them excellent, very infrormative, which is a credit to those who regularly reply to members queries.
Just to let you know about me, I am 53 and a "Proper" time served electrician. I have however been living abroad for the last 6 years, doing something completely different, but the world economic crisis hit the companies I was working for so it was back home and pick up the tools again.
It was back to college for me to get things up to date, 17th and all that and now, well since the end of June have become NAPIT registered. Yippee!! (I hope)
Now to my queries................... I have all of the qualifications that City and Guilds can throw at an electrician but the buss word seems to be the "2399 solar PV" (which I think is now superseeding the 2372) and it appears that this qualification is the one that will be ultimately recognised in the future, yes or no? your thoughts?
Having done some research on the 2399 courses it appears that there are some 7 to 10 day all inclusive courses, ranging from £900 plus VAT to around £1500. has anyone done this course and can you recommend a good training provider?
On a bit of negative note, I am hearing that the average PV array products are not that good (not boil a kettle). I was also told by a installer of offshore wind turbines that domestic wind turbines are poor too and both are far too expensive for the average house hold to afford. Therfore a hard sales pitch is needed, true or false?. Also that the German PV market failed when they pushed the PV route and the UK is heading the same way too, again any views?
I would love to hear from any of you Solar PV guys out there who are doing the 2399 course and working in the PV industry to ask if after investing in this "Green market" whether it is worth while or a waste money for the courses and equipment. Also whether the rumours are wrong and that its a busy market or is it all hype.
