Hi Guys,

I'm sure it has happened to quite a few of you but I was wondering why do companies not pay newly qualified electricians the full rate when they qualify ? Let me know you experiences ?

Dave

because they're newly qualified and still at the early part of the learning cycle. One firm I worked for said 'you can't be an apprentice one day and a spark the next'. (This is not my opinion, just a reported one!).

Firm I worked for changed the boys rates when they got PASS results same day gave them a months notice as they had payed all the men off barring 4 :(

probably because they know little..and a cheap alternative..

it took me 5 years to become an electrician and i qualified in 3 years so for 2 years i was earning a mans wage but was still a boy, for 2 years i was in way above my head, not because i was money orientated but because that was the way i figured out i could learn the most in the quickest time, don't feel too sore that a newly qualified sparks is payed less than an old boy. becoming qualified demonstrates that you understand the basics and are ready to start learning at the same time as working in a mostly unsupervised environment.
i can understand companies doing this but from what i have seen it is only about screwing those workers

i am newly qualified, put me on £13.50 an hour. 60 Hours a week whatever, rough with the smooth. 15 hours a day for weekends, and as we have got loads on im regularly getting the 90 hours a week. This works at £1215 for 7 days. I think this is amazing as im only 21 but what does this compare to other people? or people working for JIB firms?

I done the same hours with the last JIB mob I worked for but I got time and a half and double time and made alot more than that.
They are treating you poorly only paying you single time, and saving themselves a fair bit of money

Sounds like your doing well mate, earning a good wage and gaining experience too.
Theres probably lots of people out there earning more but I am sure theres lots more people earning loads less than you and if your happy doing what your doing and earning what you earning and have a constant stream of work then happy days.
