I've got 4 R7s fixtures connected to a single dimmer switch. They were the old halogen types and I was changing them to dimmable LEDs.

Replaced one with a dimmable LED and tested it - dimmable LED worked without any problems. Got to full brightness and dimmed all the way.

Replaced the rest and at max brightness, they are all very dim, and dim in steps (2-3 steps throughou the range)

I don't get what's wrong because one worked without a problem, and I'd assume they're all linked in parallel so one light shouldn't affect the rest

Is the dimmer actually LED compatible, and is it capable of driving the 4 off lights? Also, dimmers very often have to be derated for LED use. Perhaps post a photo of the dimmer module, if you are not sure. Also, what is the rating of each of the new lights?

Im not sure, I've moved to a new property and have replaced the halogens with LEDs as they kept breaking

The LEDs seem to work if there's one normal Halogen bulb in, which confuses me

New lights are 240V/12W, not sure what you mean by the rating.

This is the switch, I have no idea about the branding and as I'm renting I don't want to take it apart

You've got a dimmer (well, several!) which is/are not compatible with the LED bulbs you've added.
Since you're in a rented property I would be inclined to leave one halogen bulb in, and use 3 LED's, unless the colour/brightness of the single halogen is a problem,
Seems to be a feature of older style dimmers that were designed for halogen loads, not LED's. I've experienced exactly the same issue ?

Re the dimmers, I meant a photo that shows their make/model/rating, typically printed on the back of the dimmer module. But as it is a rental property and you can't take it apart, no matter.

As Avo8 says, it is highly likely the dimmers are not LED compatible. Leaving one halogen lamp in place might solve the problem, by giving the dimmer enough of a load of the sort it likes, worth trying.

Thanks so much both of you, will give it a go!
To be clear, I think each separate circuit, ie each group of lamps controlled by a dimmer, will need at least one halogen bulb, but the rest on that same circuit can be LED's. Good luck ?
