Has anyone found ratedpeople.com to be any good? any experiences of how well (or not) the system works?

works for some. i tried them a couple of years ago. worth a punt for the £10 trial, but be very selective on which leads you buy. a lot of the customer cost estimates are ridiculous. bear in mind that most will go for the cheapest quote.

I went on their free trial and found it to be a total waste of time. They don't give a **** about the tradesman or the customer, only the revenue they can glean in between the both.
They don't (IMO) even protect the basic confidential details of the tradesmen they represent due to their flawed and lazy system.
I gained no real business during my trial due to their flawed system of quoting. Customers set their own budget, so ads will be placed saying "rewire of 3 bed house £2000 maximum". They are not gonna get any replies as they are obviously not prepared to pay the going rate. At the other end, someone will place an ad saying "shower feed required, budget £5000" as they don't know what it will cost. You are obviously not gonna reply to that ad as you pay a percentage of the customers estimate to even get a chance to quote for the job.
They do no checks of tradesmen's credentials, so they could be putting someone who is not a member of a scheme in touch with a customer that needs a notifiable job doing. They say it's the customer's responsibility to check this out.

Waste
Of
Time.

well i hope they can speak polish then...
no really,....if its a cheap quote they want then alls they`v got to do is drive by a few stret corners early in the morning....there will be a group of guys on the wall waiting for a days work...
or just round the corner from the local jobcentre is another favourite haunt...

I gave them a try a few months back because they had a 'first month free' offer. I didnt get a single lead (quite normal for this area as we have our own site's). When i called then to cancel explaining that it wasn't worth my while the operator said
"so your an electician?"
"yes" i replied.
"do you know how to lay laminate flooring?"
"i did some of my own" i said
"right i'm gonna send you lead, there's somebody in your area that wants some laying, i wont cancel your subscription yet in case you get this job"
"eeerrrmmm, no thanks, just cancel it"
It would have ment that i had gone into the second month so they would have invoice me for another 30 days....lol...God loves a tryer!

I have been on for last six months. I've now paid annual subscription which gets me leads cheaper.
If I'm working on a large project, I might buy 1 lead per week, a small job that I can do in a few hours.
It's not great, but neither is it rubbish.
I'm comfortable with been rated quite publicly I'm not the cheapest, but I do relish the sales challenge lol

Crap. Genuinely suprised this shower of idiots are still going. Total rip off. As are myhammer, mybuilder, and anyone else who claims they can get you leads for a cut of your profits.

then again, ads in the local paper take your money with no guarantees of any response.

I had a job lead from these,3 bed detached house rewire, budget under £1000 what!!!!!.There was another lead local to me 2 bed bungalow but they wanted £50 to get the details get stuffed,im cancelling at the end of the month.

I started with them a while back as it was 2 months free and they gave me £50 free to by leads.....Ive won the three jobs that ive bought so far and got repeat work from them customers....they now have my direct number and they give it to there friends and family. Ive made some half decent money from it....but the leads can be a bit crap as said above. But if you stick to the small jobs, you can make a few hundred a week from it. Ive phoned them twice to cancel but they keep offering me another few months free and the last time I rang to cancel....they gave me two months free and £40 to spend on leads...so its cost me nowt and made me a bit. Win Win!!

Agree with Jay, no harm in it.
Remember , customer has to select price on what they think its worth, very hard for them.
What that means is they get no calls for extra socket because contractor has to pay £50 for lead, or contractor thinks a rewire for £1000 is **** taking- no call
Of course, some are genuinely ignorant, others just tight
Prob is you have to buy to find out so its chance. I've had some good jobs and plenty referrals
I've also had some complete wasters
