Hi all,

Asked to price up installing a hot tub supply, just wanted some guidance.
Customer not sure on tube yet so doing a couple.
13A Hot tub usually are just plug and play ... BUT.. the tub is going roughly 15 meters away from house, i have no problem with fitting a socket to supply the tub but what about earthing ? its a PME System would that be sufficient or we delving into Earth rod territory ? tub will be mounted on concrete and there are no metal parts anywhere near.( wooden shed next to it with no electric in).i would say its class 2 tub.
for a 32a that shouldnt be to much problem as i would rather use the MATT:E system then install a rod (matt:e basicly eliminated the need for a rod )

If the customer is buying a plug in unit then I would just supply and install a socket-outlet in the position they want, it's up to them what they plug in.

If it's to be a larger fixed unit then I would need to see the manufacturers instructions to see what they would recommend.

Stick a socket in and then go back a few weeks later when its burnt out :tearsofjoy: :tearsofjoy: Appears to be a common problem with hut tubs.

usually cheap and nasty sockets. most plug-in hot tubs are 2.2kW so a BS1363 should handle it.

Typical....
you get a nice little job... "can you put an outside socket in for me... just for the lawnmower, whatever"

Next thing you know, call back because its not working. "I just had the hottub on for the (whole) weekend!"

it will be a 13amp dedicated socket around 15 mtr run shouldnt burn out hopefully

As @telectrix has pointed out "most plug-in hot tubs are 2.2kW so a BS1363 should handle it."
If this is not the case and the plug or socket keeps burning out, would it be better to cut off the plug and hardwire them into a 13A fused unit?
