I'm in the process of calculating my day rate and hourly rate etc so that I can ensure I cover my wages and all other business costs.

I stumbled across this Average Labour Day Rates and it ties in with roughly what I need to charge. I think it's a little bit higher than my area are actually charging but I know another electrician who is charging approx 20 quid above.

So, I'm interested to try and find out how it compares to what you charge or what other electricians in your area may be charging:thumbsup

I know this could have gone in the business forum but I didn't really want us discussing such amounts with the beady public eye scowling ;)

Looks like I charge too much then.

Unlike the bloke nearby (not Jeremy) who claims to charge £75/hour, according to my new customer and his old one!!

Wholly unrealistic, even in my area.

And.....plumbers can charge more according to the building sheriff!!!!!!!!

Interesting link. I appear to have been winning 80% of quoted jobs for the last 5 years based on a rate 20% higher than they pose.

That site would put my day rate too high... but while I'm still getting the work I'm unlikely to reduce it!

I mostly get £150 for day rate (normal day about 8-10 hours out of house)subbing or labour only.
If I work direct for a customer I give a fair price for what ever needs doing.
I try to look at what I have earnt for the month rather than for the day or week as sometimes it can be a bit disappointing.

Well for 10mile radius from Reading, Berkshire i charge for faults £30 for 1st hr plus parts inc travel then £25 phr there after and installs i charge per job.

hourly rate showing ridiculously low however I charge £425 + VAT for CU & Bonding yet this site shows should be at £610 which means I am undercharging by nearly £80..... oh I realise why the testing should be extra it aint like we HAVE to do it

remembering the £150 cu change,a forum member put down that they charge £12 an hour for tracing circuits, not good.

According to that I'm charging too much?! Mind you, I know a 'sparks' not too far from me who charges half what I do for a day but never seems to get any work. Hmmmm, I wonder why????. If you pay peanuts, expect to get monkeys! That's what I say.

Micro rant over :D

right within the limits according to the building sheriff @ 160 a day, don't get why the plumbers are charging more though?

Us sparks don't have to unblock huge steaming logs from toilets, that's why they can charge more :D

Also the fact that theres no gas installer mentioned on there so i presume thats gas reg plumbers.

Gas reg plumbers are simular to us in that they need to join a scheme and issue a cert i think but dont quote me on the cert thing where as normal plumbers can and ive seen it done before put their pipework anywhere they want with no real regs and unpoliced with no scheme membership required, not long ago i saw some pipework running over the top of the cu with a slightly leaky joint ! nice ! and im sure we have all seen some pipe installs that have or could have detrimential effects
