Hello,
im reading up on the insulation resistance test at the moment, when doing an insulation test on say a ringmain, and there is switched fused switches with neon, and the switch is OFF, can this still affect the reading? also when doing the L to N, why is it sometimes get really low reading...
Can anyone help me, I've been asked to do an inspection on a property that is on a single 32A ring, including the kitchen. The appliances are all integrated and aren't spurs. Is there a way to perform the test with these appliances in place?
Thanks!
Hi All,
I'm doing a c/u change for my first assessment which is next week and I'm getting myself confused over the Insulation Testing, hope you can help.
The setup is a TT supply, coming from the meter into a new 100A switch isolator (where the old 100mA RCD was) then 25mm tails across to the...
HiI have just test a couple of phone chargers in my house using a Kewtech KT71.When i have pressed the class 2 test it goes through it sequence and then fails on insulation, but if i press the test again (still on the same test i think)it passes. Now if i was doing this test for real would i...
I'm using a Fluke 1652c as my MFT. When I do the Insulation resistance tests at 500v - sometimes the result is displayed immediatley i.e >500 Megohms , other times the resistance seems to climb slowly, peaking around a figure. As this figure is generally massively in excess of the required 2...
I am going to do my first install and at the risk of getting shot down, I was told on my training that you can NOT do a insulation resistance test dc side? However since been told by a friend that is wrong! Can someone please tell me the exact sequence, as everyone has a different take on this...
I am currently doing work that will require a Minor Works Certificate on completion.
The property I am working in is council owned and the occupant is currently in hospital.
Due to the amount of work being undertaken ALL of the rooms have been previously filled with furniture etc.

I have just carried out an IR test on a cooker circuit using my FLUKE1653b tester. Got a reading of >500m ohms for the L/L test but only 5.77m ohms for the L/E test. As a result of this I split the Line and Neutral and did a Line/Earth test and got >500m ohms and a Neutral/Earth and again only...

if i take a spur off the ring main and fit an additional twin socket where do i carry out the insulation resistance tests for this new socket?
is it back at the fuse board for the whole of the ring main circuit which my new socket is part of or is the test carried out at the new socket position...

How do you undertake insulation resistance test on "singles" ? Because they are not encased in a sheath like T&E how does the test equipment measure between them?
Hi guys.
This is to do with Periodic Inspections. When you are testing a circuit and forget to unplug a piece of equipment that has a high earth leakage could this be damaged doing the ins res test between live and earth. I do not know electronics but is there a connection to earth. The problem...

Hi all,
When performing an IR test, you are advised to remove all sensitive equipment, i.e. dimmers etc. My question is, do you leave the conductors open ended, do test and replace. What if you crunch it when replacing it. That makes it a waste of time doing the test in the first place. Isn't...
Hi guys, I'm currently studying level 3 c&g 2330, and have my testing exam coming up very shortly. I was wondering if there was more than 1 way to test insulation resistance, and if so which is the most common because 1 of the lecturers told me: with the main isolator locked off, with the tester...
hi again, I havedone a test in my garage it has it's own cu with two cb's one for lights one for sockets. I have one double socket. I did the test on the socket, I took the line, neutral, earth wires out and did the test and got a reading 1000m and the ohm's sign ( I take it this is 1 megga ohm...
hi, just want to confirm I have got this right. If I am doing a insulation resistance test on a ring circuit and it has fixed equipment then a soft test at 250v is required and the socket switches in the on position.
cheers
Hi all
Recently changed a consumer unit , adding new radial, bonding etc for my initial assessment, IR tested everything initially and before been terminated in new board, all readings ok.
I'm sure I've read that if it is a new installation that the board as a whole need testing?

Any feedback on this would be handy.
If you have a property that has a lot of lamps etc.. that are too much to remove to carry out a insulation resistance test why does it work that connecting the line and neutral together and testing between the two and earth.
Can someone explain.
