Hi all,

I need to get some of my gear calibrated, I've got quotes from a couple of local companies, but are there any companies in Newport/Cardiff that I should absolutely avoid, and conversely does anyone have any good recommendations?

Thanks

Christina

you could try mike at On Site Calibration Services. he comes to you.

Thanks chaps.

I've made enquiries with Able Calibration Services and Alpha Electronics.

Do you have an email address for A-T Instruments @Des 56 ? I did see them, but was put off by the fact the website isn't working.

Just checked On Site and unless it's a different company, they don't cover South Wales.

The guy I used was Alan Thompson at
1 Banc Yr Afon, Gwaelod-y-garth, Cardiff CF15 9TU
Tel: 029 2081 0597
He may or may not still be in business but he provided a good service

Its a couple of years since I had needed my own calibrated
Napit were more than happy with keeping a monthly log, that saved me the needless annual expense

There is a larger concern on the Nantgarw ind estate but I have lost their contact info

That's great, thanks @Des 56 . I'll have a dig around for the place in Nantgarw, just up the road so thats not too bad, and I'll give Alan a call tomorrow. He's still listed on Yell, so fingers crossed.

I'm with NAPIT and was planning on using their advice, unfortunately I let it lapse so I'm going to get my gear properly calibrated and then keep up with the proper record keeping.

I've got the parts to install a couple of test sockets next to the CU. Both 15A round pins so they can't be used for anything else, one's going to be a 32A MCB only so I can do high current Zs tests and another on a separate RCBO so I can do my RCD checks without blacking out half the house :)

Not that its any help but I am always reluctant to send my MFT away for calibration. Only because I worry about it being thrown about by some dodgy courier. I use the calibration day at my local eddys. I know other wholesalers have them too so that could be worth a ring around. Unless you need it doing pronto that is.

The thought of my test gear in the hands of some courier is exactly why I'm looking for somewhere local so I can take it there and pick it back up.

Good thought about the wholesalers though, may give a couple a try. Thanks

Have you tried asking on site services? Mike did my mft a couple of weeks ago ...

Is it the On Site Services based in Lincolnshire (or that neck of the woods)?

I concluded it was a bit out of his patch when I looked at the website.

as i'm not in any scam these days. i don't need mine calibrating officially. just once every 3 months i check it at home , first on one of my non-RCD sockets for hi-current Zs, then on the circuit that feeds the TV when 'er indoors has Emmerrroids on at 7.

Sorry Christina, I really should have read your OP properly! Then my reply might have been pertinent! I blame my kids for distracting me!

No worries, I hadn't thought about wholesalers having calibration days so it was a worthwhile post, thanks :)

The need for calibration is not driven by the scams, although they do check up on it.
