Connections to light

Thoughts on this,is this really ok.
Using EMG supply to supply PIR sensor on light fitting.
No switch cable required.

Looks like the earth tab has snapped oof from the steel backplate, the end is in the choc block.

Ok,why wouldnt you have a switched connection too,it’s a maintained emg light,so in a test all lights would go off.
Dont make sense to me.

Agree its a maintained emg light,with built in sensor,lux,sensitivity,& time dipswitches.
The pernament live as no connection to it.
The integreal PIR & controls are fed from the emg supply.
Usually a maintained emg light will have all the connections to it.
Seems very strange...

The whole point of PIRs on internal lighting is to prevent lights being left on when not in use and saving energy.
A switched live will defeat this by allowing the light to be left on permanently.

But normal maintained lights have a switched live connection,isn’t it wrong to have an emg supply to supply the PIR sensor.
Would you supply an added light ,from a non maintained fitting,using the emg switched supply,instead of having a live supply.

think in see now what you mean. taking a perm L from emg to feed a PIR controlling another light? OK except that the PIR would lose it's L when testing the emg with keyswitch.

Yea it’s cabled in 3 core cable,using black for emg,brown for switched,or live in this case,but there’s no connection on that connector.
This is where the PIR should of been supplied from not the emg feed.

Its an emg fitting,connected like the emg klicks,black is the emg feed,brown is switched.

Unless the supply is fed from a static inverter or central battery system then its not really an emergency supply, its just a normal supply that is switched by a key switch.
If that fitting had a switched live connection then what would it do? What would be the purpose of the switched live in a fitting with integral PIR?
That fitting has got an extra terminal which can be used to terminate any switched live conductor you might have when replacing other types of light, what else do you need?

If that added light is not an emergency fitting then I would pick up the feed for it elsewhere.

The emergency fittings will go in to emergency mode when the supply is switched off yes, they will not continue to operate in PIR mode so why would it need to be fed seperately?

Only the emergency lights will go in to test mode, all non emergency lights on the room will stay on as they won't be connected to the feed from the keyswitch, they should be connected to the permanent live.
