Hi Guys & Gals,

I have just sent out a few letters to some local care/nurseing homes offering my services. Now I already do all the electrical work for a home and Ive been doing it for just over two years. Ive had to do some in additional courses like safe guarding, CRB etc and Im used to being adused by the residents.lol :53:so I thought I would see if I could get a few more customers.

Anyway, I wont bore you with the details of the letter but I have put in there, "discounted rates for contracts". Now the one I work for already, I useually charge at least £10 per hour less than I normally charge but there is no contract in place. I charge this because of the continued work and knowing that I will be the first one they call for there electrical needs, (I also do some maintenance work for them).

So, I dont want to know your figures or hourley rates but If I get a phone call from one of the care homes, asking what my monthly contract figure is, to cover all emergancies, minor works etc (not including materials), I want know how did you come to your monhtly figure??? What sort of stuff do I offer for that figure??? What do I not offer??? And any other info that I might need to take this forward.

With the other home its just, quote job, do job, invoice for job, get paid for job by bacs 2 weeks later!! But Im hoping to secure some nice little contracts that will keep the monthly income coming in.

Sorry for the long thread and thanks for the upcoming replies/abuse..lol

We cover a lot of Nursing homes over the south to Midlands on fire and nurse call etc, but we dont cover electrical, they are always looking for for sparks and no one seems to stick at it, or try and overcharge....so you should get some response from your letters.

I know the home I work for have a contract for there fire and nurse call stuff but Ihave done a few jobs for them moving call buttons in rooms etc. I will be offering them an hourley rate alot lower than normal for continued use but I was thinking along the lines of a set monthly fee that covers EM call outs and minor repairs etc.....Any new installs will obviousley be a price per job.... Just dont know how to work out the monthly rate!!

Its hard working in a nurseing home as you probably know, especially if it caters for people with dementia. It took a while for me to get used to being shouted at and hit but you just have to remember they are ill. Plus the smell is horrible..lol Probably why they cant get any one to do the work..lol

You need to place an annual Maintainence in place, with a set call out rate.
We love working in the homes, all the lads get fed, and enjoy the crack.
Its not hard to work out the costings, just be competitive, and do your research
