Hey all!! I am a qualifed electrician and have 8 years under my belt!! but i feel that in my area there is an opening for a new fire alarm maintenance/installer man in our area and i would love to venture in to that field!! i have experience wiring numerous buildings fire alarms but when came to getting panel up and going another company came in and finished it off!! So what would i have to do?? i dont mind if i have to invest a bit of money on courses etc but would like to know is what im doing possible or am i dreaming!! plus are all panels coded?? and if so if i was called to a premises to fix/maintain their fire alarms, would i b screwed without these codes??ANY HELP WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED!! THANKYOU

The FIA, is the best place to start. would suggest taking modular caurses in Design, Installation and commissioning. Design is the most important module, if you are going to undertake installation works, get this wrong and it becomes serious business.
The are two main types of system, Managed and open. Large companies like ADT , Chubb, Protec, use Managed systems, and only they can modify or add to the system, you can service these systems by the user code, but basically thats it. Open systems, can be programmed and modified by any company with correct software etc, and engineering codes can usually be defaulted or our set by manufacture. Will take some time to get this all together, but hope this helps

It becoming the norm, companies have had enough of high bills and lengthy contracts....be all and end all its still only an addressable panel, the cable is the same...so replace panel and devices..job done

More than that mate, they have closed the protocol and are no longer supporting the menerva systems, you can no longer get the components.
