If you're a qualified, trainee, or retired electrician - Which country is it that your work will be / is / was aimed at?
United Kingdom
What type of forum member are you?
Practising Electrician (Qualified - Domestic or Commercial etc)
Hello All, at the tender age of 33, I decided I would like a change of careers. So I quit my job and in May I start a four month full time training period at able skills. This will include Level 2 and 3 C&G and 17th Wiring regs and PAT course. I will then eventually complete 2394 and 2395 at some point. I will also look to achieve the NVQ3 and pass the AM2.

I was wondering if anyone could give me a ball park time frame for achieving the NVQ and AM2?

I will finish the Level 2 and 3 by September 2017 and then look to get work with a qualified sparky. To learn the trade and hit the competencies for the NVQ

What would be the best way to find work as a trainee?

Any advice would be great

Cheers

Pete

Firstly sign up with as many agencies as you can as sometimes they have work for trainees and mates.

I started out by going to the building sites and talking to the Electrical managers face to face. Nothing beats being proactive.

But I started out on £40 a day after tax but what I learnt there enabled me to get my NVQ out the way and learn enough to earn decent money now.

Thanks for the reply mate. How long did it take you to complete your Nvq?

I was lazy with mine and stretched it over 3 years, in reality there's no reason why you shouldn't finish it in 6-8 months without any difficulty.

Hi have you asked for access to the trainee forum yet??
