Would I be right in saying that adding an outdoor PIR to an existing outdoor lighting spur with one existing PIR and two post lights on it would not be notifiable anymore since April 2013?

Also the house has a 3036 board which I will be recommend updating however I'm fairly certain that will not happen. The outdoor lights are fed from a fused spur inside the house off a ring final circuit. My understanding of the regulations is that if you are modifying an existing ring final circuit then RCD protection must be provided at the origin of the circuit. Adding an RCD fused spur only protects the modified part of the circuit, would this comply?

the lights are fed from the RFC via a FCU. as your work does not need RCD protection, just carry on. however, i would recommend \rcd protection to the client, if only for sockets.

How can you say that , the OP hasn't indicated how he plans to run cables etc.

i assumed that wiring to an external PIR would be surface . never seen it done any other way.

OK, i'll concede the point. smack on wrist.

RCD Protection is only needed if, A) Manufacturers instructions say the light needs on B) The earthing arrangement is TT C) or the cable route doesn't comply with 522.6.101

Why would the lighting circuit need RCD protection?

I understood that if I was modifying the circuit, adding an additional external PIR to the outdoor lighting then I would be taking responsibility for the whole circuit. As the outdoor lights are fed from a ring final circuit this would mean providing RCD protection at the origin.

The lights are cabled with SWA. I was planning on adding SWA to an additional PIR at the bottom of the garden path.

You are only responsible for and also testing what you install, obviously you have to ensure any bonding and the main earth are present before carrying out any installation work.

Ok so no need for the RCD fused spur unless it's TT and disconnection times cannot be met.

no it'll be buried. Then I'll have to attach the PIR to a post of some description at the bottom of the garden path. That's a kind of plan.

Or it doesn't comply with reg 522.6.101

Not quite as simple as that.

RCD protection is required if 522.6.101 (v) is used (run in zones) and not compliant with 522.6.101 (i), (ii), (iii), or (iv) (earthed metallic covering or heavy mechanical protection) and not under supervision of skilled or instructed person.

See 522.6.102

But I sort of know what you're getting at.
