I am having a bit of a problem with my local college. I passed the 2391 written exam way back in March this year. The results didn't come through until late June due to the papers having to be remarked.

My college lecturer said that he would contact us once we had passed in order to organise the 2391 practical test. However, nothing was heard for several weeks. I have since tried to contact the lecturer and the college admin department on a number of occasions but never hear anything back.

I don't want to name the college as this may make the situation worse. I also don't want to complain to the college about the lecturer not returning my calls as he is the only person at the college that can do the practical test.

Can anyone please advise whether the written exam expires if the practical is not done within a certain time.

Just wondered if anyone else had suffered similar problems and how they resolved it.

As far as I'm aware no there is no time stipulation , but a good guy to ask on here is Widdler as he is the forums sounding board in training.

To be honest I think you have every right now to contact the college and ask them if there is a problem with this tutor, as you tried to contact him and couldn't. Obviously there are ways and means to be tactful, but if he hasn't bothered returning your calls then perhaps tact should be pushed a little.

Where are you based? My father-in-law runs his own Electrical Training company and he said that you should have done your practical before you took the exam. The only thing to do is to see if a company like his will allow you to do the practical through them.

I passed my theory exam in 2009, but failed the practical, I re-took the practical with a different college in 2011, and passed, and I still gained the qualification, despite the 17th Edition coming into affect in the meantime. I believe that as long as your theory pass is recorded on the City and Guilds 'Walled Garden' (some kind of database I guess) then you'll be fine.
