I wonder is anyone can help with this ...
I have a bank 6 downlights in my ceiling (installed about 10 years ago), with a double dimmer controlling 3 each.
Gradually the spots have decided to not function, so that now only 1 on each bank of 3 works.. so to me that rules out a dimmer issue ..
As a potential solution I have just fitted new transformers (there is one each) and I can hear then working, however ... I am also installing new downlighter fittings as well and these don't work ... ie: I have power to the transformer and I can hear it buzzing, but if I take off one of the remaining working spot fittings and replace it with a new one, it doesn't work! If I put the old one back on it does ... it's just 2 wires ....? As for the others, the situation is the same with the transformers buzzing ...
The only difference I can think of is that the new spots use GU10 but the old fittings used the bulbs with 2 spikes ... but were still in the same wattage range (30-50W).

I am guessing I am missing something very obvious here, but it makes no sense to me.

Hope someone can suggest something

Thanks

you are fitting GU10 ( 230V ) lamps where you should be fitting 12V. take the transformers out.

Wind up!

1/10 for effort

Wish it was wind up ... I really am that dim lol

If you really are that dim, then the only course of action recommended is to get an electrician in to sort them out for you.
It would be foolish to mess with wires with zappy juice in them if you had to ask the first question.

I'm pretty sure it's a wind up too though.

even more on the TT tests (tongue or testicles).

Getting a bit weird in this thread now...

Why do people do these wind up posts????

Seems a waste of effort to set up a new account just for a wind up.

I repeat what I said earlier - no wind up. An honest question, to which my first reply gave me the answer ... I have enjoyed the banter you guys have had today, but let's not be condescending ... the only reason I registered was because I needed the answer, no shame there. Thanks for letting me in and helping me out.
