Hi all,

It's a lovely day outside, the sun is out and the sky is blue, so naturally, I've been cleaning the house all day and am now reading my Regs looking forward to the point for when I re-wire my house room by room, once I have the relevant experience and quals etc.

I'll be doing it by chasing the cables into the external masonry walls as much as possible and so I was brushing up on the different reference methods and Table 4D5 for the CCC of Twin & CPC.

However, I could only find the following reference methods:

100# - Above Plasterboard Ceiling with <= 100mm of Thermal insulation
101# - Above Plasterboard Ceiling with >= 100mm of Thermal insulation
102# - In a stud wall with thermal insulation, where cable touching inner wall
103# - In a stud wall with thermal insulation, where cable NOT touching inner wall
C - Clipped Direct
A - Enclosed in Conduit in Insulating Wall


Now, is it me or do none of these methods cater for my chosen installation method?

or

Would it be A, as it'd kinda be an insulating wall (due to having a cavity) and being behind Capping?

I look forward to your responses as I'm not fully sure.

reference method A. but if part of the run/s is covered in monkeys pubic hair, 100 or 101.
 
Single or multicore cable direct in masonary - method C.

However as they more than likely will be above a ceiling at some point and possiby in contact with thermal insulation, to determine the actual CCC of the cable I would use the reference method with the most adverse effect i.e 100 or 101 or 102 etc.

Table 4A2 p 265 explains a bot more about them.

Thank you gentlemen - it seems there are varied opinions already!
If it was just going to be in a wall (a short run from under stairs through to the kitchen, say, for a cooker/hob run, then what would you say?

There'll be no monkey's pubic hair... :)

Edit: Just read Table 4A2 on P 264 and indeed it states Method C, which, to be-honest does surprise me as I'd have thought they'd consider burying of cable in a wall as means to de-rate.

Well the '100' group of reference methods are specifically for flat T&E in thermal insulation so I would opt for method C.

looking at phil's avatar, it's not all in attics either.
 
Would any of you bother with capping if you were going to protect with RCBO and if the chase was shallower than 50mm?
 
Capping is there to protect the cables from the plaster not from nails etc so yes i would cap
 
plasterer not plaster
