Hi Guys,

just before i call the sparks out, am i able to remove a smoke alarm and get it in a junction box in a bedroom? they are hardwired so it will be in a junction box then hidden in the ceiling.

they are two meters away from the other one which is in the hallway. its just the room is getting a refurb so best time to make a decision, the house came with a smoke alarm in each and every bedroom in the house.

Thanks

Any junction box that is to be hidden MUST be maintenance free type including using whatever connection method the manufacturer recommends.

yes its DeBox 16A 2SL i think which is maintenance free im presuming this is okay to do then?

Before removing a smoke alarm it would be a good idea to establish why it was put there in the first place and whether it is OK to remove it.

You say it's a bedroom but is this a private house, HMO, sheltered housing etc?

its my house its a fairly new build 1999 its just in evry single room

If it were me, I would want to keep the smoke alarm in the bedroom, and not reduce the effectiveness of the installed system in detecting and alerting me to a potential fire in the house.

If you just find it a bit of an eyesore, you might be able to locate it somewhere less visually intrusive, but you'd need to follow the manufacturer's instructions on location.

The installers will probably have fitted it in the most convenient location for ease of cabling, whilst complying (hopefully) with the instructions, and won't likely have considered how it looks as you walk in to the room.

Is this just a conventional 2 storey Detatched / Semi / Terraced house?
Or 3 storey, maybe with garage below?

There is probably a very valid reason why it was put there in the first place. You probably need to check the original specification at the time to see what was required where!
