It's coming to the end of my relationship with my 52 plate transit.
Over the past year it's had nothing but problems, with the following works done:
Re-sprayed & signwritten
New wings as original were 'too' rusty
Most components replaced on the brakes
Gearbox problems (towed away)
More gearbox problems (towed away again, original gearbox saved again!.. how long will it last now?)
New clutch when the box was out
Problem with diesel leaking from fuel pump... cant remember what the fix was but at the time I was told I should be relieved it didn't need a new pump in the end
Cutting out every few miles in a short space of time, 4 or 5 times with engine management light flashing- then starting again straight away- then it will be ok for 6 weeks weeks & repeat
I've had it for almost three years and although it only has 100k on it
The rust is coming through again in places, will probably look awful after this winter and its getting quite manky
Road tax runs out in 5 days
Keep having to top coolant up, theres a leak somewhere deep inside and its getting worse
Two tires are due
This morning it decided to break down again, they (local independant garage) came out and plugged the computer in but it apparantly wasn't clear what was wrong and half a can of easy start wouldn't give it any life, apparantly likely an injector problem / nackered pump?
It is actually the third time its been off the road in 7 weeks, each time I've thought ahh its only this or that much money I'm sure it will be fine for a year / 6 months / a month... then it leaves me without transport again!
I'm not sure where to draw the line and stop wasting? money on this van.
The local vauxhall dealership are trying very hard to get me to drive away in one of the new vivaros they've had parked outside for a while, and I'm thinking of spending a lot more than last time on something nice n shiny and reliable. After all, the van is my shop front and showroom.. but even the deposits/VAT on a new van are money I don't really have spare at the moment!
Has anybody got an opinion or any experiences keeping a 10 year old transit / getting a new vivaro, or any recommendations on the new(er) vans available at the moment?
