I've just bought one of these: wander lead | eBay
It does exactly what it says on the tinfor less than the "proper" one & thought some of you would be interested in having one too.

I have no connection with the seller in any way other than being a satisfied customer.

Seller claims it to be Tri-Rated.

I can tell you that it's single, multi-strand, very flexible 1.5mm CSA of the sort that would be used to wire panels etc.

The resistance of the whole 30 metres is 0.40 Ohms - according to my Metrel 61557.

There are 2 crock clips with it which are quite small, but I think that is no bad thing if you're trying to clip onto a ceiling rose for example, but my "normal" size clips which I already have fit it too.

As my "proper" trade is a Scientific Instrument Maker & Precision Engineer (DON'T ask!!) I can say that the thing is very well made.

Funny you should say that ....... that's exactly what I've been using too !!!

just bought 1. was going to make my own but by time i've bought cable, plugs, etc. and the orig.cost of an extn. lead, why be arsed.

That's what I was going to do but reached the same conclusion as you !!

I have the old meggar 30 and 50 metre ones, don't ask you accumulate so much over the years, but that looks ideal for domestic, small and compact and lightweight.

That always my gripe the tailor mades where always bulky

Yes, the case on this one is quite small, the overall dims. being: 7" x 5.5" x 3.5"
so it's not going to take up too much room in the plastic crate that I keep my test stuff in !!

picked a kewtech one up on fleabay few weeks back for same money - definately better than a run of single core

If you're stuck, you can croc-clip the earth pin from your standard extension reel to the MET, and then use a socket-mate tester in the reel sockets to measure from. It works, and they're a lot cheaper than the supposed 'proper' kit.
